TIME is the one commodity above all others that is our true possession. Objects come and go,
relationships enter and
recede, jobs change
circumstances alter,

We have it to do with

We often overlook
the use of our time:
when we sleep we
are passing time,

conversation with a
dear friend we are
sharing time;
When we nuture
a suffering other
we are giving our time;

time.

Time's most important
quality is that it passes,

amount of it.
Therefore, be aware
of its value
and know that when you

Attitude and Altitude

In learning to fly, I was taught that altitude can mean life or death.
The more altitude you have, the more time you have to respond
and take the correct action. In an emergency, there is never
enough time.

In life, your attitude determines your altitude... Always put a little
gratitude in your attitude.

Perhaps, you've heard that your attitude reflects leadership. Here are a
few observations.

If your leader is money, your attitude will reflect greed.
If your leader is sin, your attitude will reflect lack of care.
If your leader is selfishness, your attitude will reflect disrespect.
If your leader is hate, your attitude will reflect destruction.
If your leader is possessions, your attitude will reflect envy.
If your leader is perfectionism, your attitude will reflect denial.
If your leader is your ego, your attitude will reflect self importance.

If your leader is God, if you put God first in your life...
your attitude will reflect humbleness, humility, grace, thankfulness
and love.

Be the best you can be by making God your leader. Your attitude will
show others who your leader is. Your altitude will soar...
all the way to heaven!

Really... think for a minute.

Is it your attitude?

Maybe you think it's your ability.

Could you have been the victim of a severe case

of the "stink'n thinking"?
Do you find that you have a negative attitude

toward doing something new?

For the past few months,

I've been helping to teach scuba diving.

I am working on my next accreditation,

dive master / assistant instructor.

What an incredible experience it's been.

Every other Saturday morning a new class

of students arrives for their scuba training.

Most of them are scared.

You see it in their eyes.

The look on their faces tells the story.

Not sure what to expect and

scared of what they don't understand.

Did you get that?
They are full of fear.

Simply stated, they are not sure of

what we're going to do, so

they fill their brains with fear.

They have a horrible case of the "what if's".

Yet, by the end of the day,

most will be smiling and hooked for life

on a sport that teaches you to be

underwater, breathing and comfortable.
What's the difference?

What happened in only a few hours

to totally change their mind?
What did we do to scare away their fear?

This got me thinking...

Their fear, your fear...

everyone's fear is based on the "unknown".

What you don't know, may scare you.

Yet, a few simple hours of instruction, reading

and learning can change everything.

I've seen it happen, over and over again.

On Sunday evening when I leave the pool,

I get this huge smile.

I've had a chance to witness and watch people's lives change.

I have a front row seat to see

what others miss so often.

People overcoming their fear,

learning something new and exciting.

To be able to see this happen has been a gift.

I say a gift because watching

people grow, learn and over come

is the most amazing thing to see.
So, I ask you again... what's holding you back?

What fear do you have that is keeping you

from accomplishing the great things

God has for you?

God has great plans for your life.

HE wants to take you where you've never been.

HE wants to use the life

HE gave you to make a difference.
Take that first step.

Enroll in a class.

Read a book.

Find someone who shares

that passion with your interest.

Learn. Find out all you can.

See how small you can make your fear.

Before you know it, you'll be moving along,

growing and looking at your life in a

whole new way...

Perhaps like me, watching marine life swimming

around you while blowing bubbles.

THREE BULLETS

There once was a man who had nothing for his family to eat. He had an old
rifle and three bullets. So, he decided that he would go out hunting and
kill some wild game for dinner.

As he went down the road, he saw a rabbit. He shot at the rabbit and missed
it. The rabbit ran away.

Then he saw a squirrel and fired a shot at the squirrel and missed it. The
squirrel disappeared into a hole in a cottonwood tree.

As he went further, he saw a large wild turkey up in a tree, but he had only
one bullet remaining. A voice spoke to him and said, "Pray first, aim high
and stay focused." However, at the same time, he saw a deer which would
provide more meat than the turkey. He brought the gun down and aimed at the
deer. But, then he saw a rattlesnake between his legs about to bite him, so
he naturally brought the gun down further to shoot the rattlesnake. Still,
the voice again said to him, "Pray first, aim high and stay focused."

So, the man decided to listen to God's voice. He prayed, then aimed the gun
high up in the tree, and shot the wild turkey. The bullet went into the
turkey, deflected off a bone and hit the deer, killing it. When the gun
fired, it knocked the man off balance, he stepped on the rattlesnake' s head
which killed it and fell backwards into a pond. When he stood up to look
around, he had fish in all his pockets, a deer and a turkey with which to
feed his family. The snake was dead simply because the man listened to God.

Moral of the story:
Keep God first and everything else will follow.

Pray first before you do anything. Aim high in your goals, and stay focused
on God. Never let people or things discourage you concerning your past. Do
not look to man for your blessings, but look only to God.

"See beyond the boxes of Judgment"

Judgment puts people in boxes. When you are judgmental, you create an orderly world out of a disorderedly one. For without the boxes, people are neither good nor bad, they simply are, full of failings, shortcomings and inappropriate emotions, full of goodness and love. They simply are. And like a jungle, everything overlaps and runs together. There is no way to judge if this plant is better than that one, since they are growing into each other, overlapping their boundaries and living in tangled coexistence.

And you are like this as well. You know how unfair it feels to be judged, since you are a very complex person. Your childhood and everything that happened since that time have led you to be like the tangled jungle, intertwined and complex. And everyone else is like this as well. What you believe is wrong may be right to someone else and vice versa. For all of it simply is.

When you stop trying to sort through the jungle, cutting things up and putting them into boxes, and instead, let it be as it is and just observe it, you will find great beauty indeed.

You will see that nature doesn’t draw straight lines and doesn’t build boxes. Nature loves curves and entanglements. Nature loves an orderly chaos formed by the lively interchange between living things. And your mind and personality are like this as well, not compartmentalized, not straight and linear, but complex, lively and intertwined, all of your different experiences melding and tangling with each other to make up who you are. And everyone else is like this as well.

And so, what we see is that without the boxes of judgment, the world is a lively and interesting place. And anyone that you may encounter, if you will but allow yourself to get past the surface judgment based on age, shape, clothing, accent, color and gender, and talk to them and learn what they have experienced, if you dig deep enough and listen with enough compassion and interest, you will discover a view of life which will teach you much. It is not about agreeing or not agreeing with them, it is not about cutting them up into little pieces which will fit into your boxes, it is about appreciating the complexity and wonder, the deepness and richness of human experience, what truly makes up this life.

Today, I wish for you to stop struggling and trying to be other than you

are. I wish for you to cease comparison to others or to an expectation

that was set by others for you and what you were to achieve. I wish

for you to even cease comparison to what you have viewed as your

potential, constantly berating yourself for not achieving more.

You are you. You are as you are, and it is good.

You will not be the same tomorrow as today, but as you are in this

moment, right now, you are perfect. You are exactly where you

should be on your path, poised to take the next step. And every

step you have taken so far, has led to this perfect moment, right now.

And now, in this moment, you are ready. You are enough.

You have within you what is required to take the next step

in the direction that you wish to head.

What a waste of time it is to spend your energy worrying about

yesterday and whether you did the right things. It does not matter in

the least. All that matters is this moment and the power that runs

through you right now. Today dawns fresh and clean, and with that

Feel the restrictions drop from you. See the windows and doors

Feel the answer as calmness in your solar plexus. Hear the answer as

words that pop into your head. See the answer in a vision that appears,

knowing. Whatever is your way, learn how to read this guidance

and ask for it often. Then follow, step by step, knowing that you are led

The Wemmicks

The Wemmicks were small wooden people. Each of the wooden people was carved by a woodworker named Eli. His workshop sat on a hill over- looking their village. Every Wemmick was different. Some had big noses, others had large eyes. Some were tall and others were short. Some wore hats, others wore coats. But all were made by the same carver and all lived in the village.And all day, every day, the Wemmicks did the same thing: They gave each other stickers.

Each Wemmick had a box of golden star stickers and a box of gray dot stickers. Up and down the streets all over the city, people could be seen sticking stars or dots on one another. The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always got stars. But if the wood was rough or the paint chipped, the Wemmicks gave dots. The talented ones got stars, too. Some could lift big sticks high above their heads or jump over tall boxes. Still others knew big words or could sing very pretty songs. Everyone gave them stars. Some Wemmicks had stars all over them! Every time they got a star it made them feel so good that they did something else and got another star.

Others, though, could do little. They got dots. Punchinello was one of these. He tried to jump high like the others, but he always fell. And when he fell, the others would gather around and give him dots. Sometimes when he fell, it would scar his wood, so the people would give him more dots. He would try to explain why he fell and say something silly, and the Wemmicks would give him more dots. After a while he had so many dots that he didn't want to go outside. He was afraid he would do something dumb such as forget his hat or step in the water, and then people would give him another dot. In fact, he had so many gray dots that some people would come up and give him one without reason.

"He deserves lots of dots," the wooden people would agree with one another. "He's not a good wooden person." After a while Punchinello believed them. "I'm not a good Wemmick," he would say. The few times he went outside, he hung around other Wemmicks who had a lot of dots. He felt better around them.

One day he met a Wemmick who was unlike any he'd ever met. She had no dots or stars. She was just wooden. Her name was Lulia. It wasn't that people didn't try to give her stickers; it's just that the stickers didn't stick.

Some admired Lulia for having no dots, so they would run up and give her a star. But it would fall off. Some would look down on her for having no stars, so they would give her a dot. But it wouldn't stay either.

"That's the way I want to be," thought Punchinello. "I don't want anyone's marks." So he asked the stickerless Wemmick how she did it. "It's easy," Lulia replied. "Every day I go see Eli."

"Eli?"

"Yes, Eli. The woodcarver. I sit in the workshop with him."

"Why?"

"Why don't you find out for yourself? Go up the hill. He's there." And with that the Wemmick with no marks turned and skipped away.

"But he won't want to see me!" Punchinello cried out. Lulia didn't hear. So Punchinello went home. He sat near a window and watched the wooden people as they scurried around giving each other stars and dots.

"It's not right," he muttered to himself. And he resolved to go see Eli. He walked up the narrow path to the top of the hill and stepped into the big shop. His wooden eyes widened at the size of everything. The stool was as tall as he was. He had to stretch on his tiptoes to see the top of the workbench. A hammer was as long as his arm. Punchinello swallowed hard. "I'm not staying here!" and he turned to leave. Then he heard his name.

"Punchinello?" The voice was deep and strong...Punchinello stopped. "Punchinello! How good to see you. Come and let me have a look at you."

Punchinello turned slowly and looked at the large bearded craftsman. "You know my name?" the little Wemmick asked.

"Of course I do. I made you." Eli stooped down and picked him up and set him on the bench. "Hmm," the maker spoke thoughtfully as he inspected the gray circles. "Looks like you've been given some bad marks."

"I didn't mean to, Eli. I really tried hard."

"Oh, you don't have to defend yourself to me, child. I don't care what the other Wemmicks think."

"You don't?"

"No, and you shouldn't either. Who are they to give stars or dots? They're Wemmicks just like you. What they think doesn't matter, Punchinello. All that matters is what I think. And I think you are pretty special."

Punchinello laughed. "Me, special? Why? I can't walk fast. I can't jump. My paint is peeling. Why do I matter to you?"

Eli looked at Punchinello, put his hands on those small wooden shoulders, and spoke very slowly,"Because you're mine. That's why you matter to me." Punchinello had never had anyone look at him like this--much less his maker. He didn't know what to say. "Every day I've been watching you hoping you'd come," Eli explained.

"I came because I met someone who had no marks." "I know. She told me about you." "Why don't the stickers stay on her?"

"Because she has decided that what I think is more important than what they think. The stickers only stick if you let them."

"What?"

"The stickers only stick if they matter to you. The more you trust my love, the less you care about the stickers."

"I'm not sure I understand."

"You will, but it will take time. You've got a lot of marks. For now, just come to see me every day and let me remind you how much I care." Eli lifted Punchinello off the bench and set him on the ground.

"Remember," Eli said as the Wemmick walked out the door. "You are special because I made you. And I don't make mistakes."

Punchinello didn't stop, but in his heart he thought, "I think he really means it." And when he did, a dot fell to the ground.

May all our stickers fall off!

When the great library of Alexandria burned, the story goes, one book was saved. But it was not a valuable book; and so a poor man, who could read a little, bought it for a few coppers.
The book wasn't very interesting, but between its pages there was something very interesting indeed. It was a thin strip of vellum on which was written the secret of the "Touchstone"!

The touchstone was a small pebble that could turn any common metal into pure gold. The writing explained that it was lying among thousands and thousands of other pebbles that looked exactly like it. But the secret was this: The real stone would feel warm, while ordinary pebbles are cold.

So the man sold his few belongings, bought some simple supplies, camped on the seashore, and began testing pebbles.

He knew that if he picked up ordinary pebbles and threw them down again because they were cold, he might pick up the same pebble hundreds of times. So, when he felt one that was cold, he threw it into the sea. He spent a whole day doing this but none of them was the touchstone. Yet he went on and on this way. Pick up a pebble. Cold - throw it into the sea. Pick up another. Throw it into the sea.

The days stretched into weeks and the weeks into months. One day, however, about midafternoon, he picked up a pebble and it was warm. He threw it into the sea before he realized what he had done. He had formed such a strong habit of throwing each pebble into the sea that when the one he wanted came along, he still threw it away.

So it is with opportunity. Unless we are vigilant, it's asy to fail to recognize an opportunity when it is in hand and it's just as easy to throw it away.

Fact 1: As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Fact 2: When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front of it.

We have never been happy with what we have, we always think for more

An old man lived alone in a Village. He wanted to
spade his potato garden,but it was very hard work.
His only son, who would have helped him, was in
prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and
mentioned his situation:

Dear Son,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I
won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I
hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother
always loved planting time. I'm just getting too old
to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here,
all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig
the plot for me, if you weren't in prison.

Love,
Dad

Shortly, the old man received this telegram:

"For Heaven's sake, Dad, don't dig up the garden!!
That's where I buried the GUNS!!"

At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and
local police officers showed up and dug up the
entire garden without finding any guns. Confused,
the old man wrote another note to his son telling
him what happened, and asked him what to do next.

His son's reply was:

"Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad.. It's the
best I could do for you from here.

"NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, IF YOU HAVE
DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING DEEP FROM YOUR HEART YOU CAN
DO IT. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT MATTERS NOT WHERE YOU
ARE OR WHERE THE PERSON IS".

Big Rocks Of Life

Something to Think About...

A while back I was reading about an expert on subject of time management. One day this expert was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration I'm sure those students will never forget. After I share it with you, you'll never forget it either.

As this man stood in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz." Then he pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on a table in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar.
When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks. Then he smiled and asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?"
By this time the class was onto him. "Probably not," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied. And he reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?" "No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good!" Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked up at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some more things into it!" "No," the speaker replied, "that's not the point. The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks in first, you'll never get them in at all." The title of this letter is the "Big Rocks" of Life.

What are the big rocks in your life? A project that YOU want to accomplish? Time with your loved ones? Your faith, your education, your finances? A cause? Teaching or mentoring others? Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all.

So, tonight or in the morning when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself this question: What are the "big rocks" in my life or business? Then, put those in your jar.

~ THE BEAUTIFUL ROSE ~

The beautiful rose was in full bloom with every single petal shining
in its glory. The morning dew held onto this perfect creation to make
sure of its infinite existence. The sun was kind and gentle, shining
its rays in the hope of allowing the rose to last yet another day.
The wind caressed each petal like a lover saying goodbye forever. The
earth trembled like a mother allowing her child to walk away and yet
knowing the pain of having the love that wanted the child to stay. As
the sun shone brighter, the wind blew harder. The morning dew
evaporated and the earth dried up. The beautiful rose started to
wilt. It could not cry out and ask for water for it had no voice.
Slowly but surely one petal after another detached itself and fell to
the ground in surrender and sorrow of its end.

Do not be like the beautiful rose for you have a voice. Call out for
love and fill your soul so that you may not lose one petal at a time
in surrender or sorrow.

~ THE TREES ~

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were
discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I
hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and
precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone
would see the beauty."

Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take
kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world.
Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."

Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and
straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill
and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how
close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and
people will always remember me."

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group
of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he
said, "This looks like a strong tree I think I should be able to sell
the wood to a carpenter," and he began cutting it down. The tree was
happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure
chest.

At the second tree the woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I
should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy
because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened
because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come
true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my
tree, so I'll take this one", and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed
box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This
was not at all what he had prayed for.

The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams
of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.

The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams. Then one
day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed
the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree.
The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this
manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this
event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second
tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on
the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong
enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood
and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that
it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the
streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came
to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die
at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it
was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God
as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your
way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in
Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they
wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what
God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but
His ways are always best.

Think Outside The Box!

Have you heard about the frog that was born at the bottom of a well? He thought life couldn't get any better till one day he looked up and saw daylight. Climbing up to investigate he was amazed to find a much larger pond than the one he lived in. And going further afield he discovered a lake that was bigger again. When eventually he came to the ocean and all he could see was water, it dawned on him just how limited his thinking had been. He thought everything he needed was down in the well, but that was a drop in the bucket compared to the things that were out there for him to enjoy.

Maybe you're living today in your own little "well," reluctant to leave your comfort zone, settling for a limited and safe existence while God has rivers "deep enough to swim in." Wouldn't you like to step out in faith, experience new depths in Him and go where you've never been before? Remember, the enemy will do everything he can to keep you focused on your background, your lack of formal education, your appearance and your limited resources. ~ CAN YOU SLEEP WHEN THE WIND BLOWS..? ~

Years ago, a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast.

He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were

reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the

awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops.

As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received

A steady stream of refusals.

Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached

the farmer. "Are you a good farm hand?" the farmer asked him.

"Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.

Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help,

Hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from

dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work.

Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore.

Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed

next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the

little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming!

Tie things down before they blow away!"

The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No

sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."

Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on

the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm.

To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had

been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens

were in the coops, and the doors were barred.

The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down.

Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his

hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while

the wind blew.

MORAL OF THE STORY..

When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically,

you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the

wind blows through your life?

The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he

had secured the farm against the storm.

We secure ourselves against the storms of life by

grounding ourselves in the Word of God.

We don't need to understand, we just need to hold

His hand to have peace in the middle of storms.
